چکیده

This paper presents a numerical solution of one GSM cell using the Modeling Specification and Evaluation Language (MOSEL-2) which is the new version of MOSEL, developed at the University of Erlangen, Germany. In this regard, the frequency spectrum of GSM cell is divided into two layers (super and regular) according to the intelligent underlayoverlay principle. Based on this principle, the super frequencies have better Carrier-to-Interference (C/I) ratio than the regular frequencies and usually used near the base station in hot spot areas, while the regular frequencies are used for the whole cell. In this paper, and based on the above assumptions, the queuing model of GSM systems is suggested and the numerical solution of this model is presented by MOSEL-2. As a result of this, the critical performance measures such as: loss probability, mean queue length and utilization are presented and discussed.

Modelling a Single Gsm/gprs Cell with Delay Tolerant Voice Calls Using Mosel-2

In this paper we introduce the new version of the MOdelling, Specification and Evaluation Language – now called MOSEL-2 – and prove its applicability for performance modelling of mobile networks with nonMarkovian models. Like its predecessor MOSEL [Al-Begain et al, 2001], MOSEL-2 was developed at the Institute for Operating Systems at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg. In contrast to many spe...

Application Of MOSEL-2 Language In Performance And Modeling Of Cellular Wireless Networks

Today's cellular wireless networks must meet increasing challenges of handling a larger demand for service without a loss of quality, by maximizing the spectral efficiency of the network. Therefore, performance evaluation and modeling of cellular wireless networks is considered to be an important issue to overcome the problem of limited resources of the network. MOSEL-2 (MOdelling Specification...

A TESLA-based mutual authentication protocol for GSM networks

The widespread use of wireless cellular networks has made security an ever increasing concern. GSM is the most popular wireless cellular standard, but security is an issue. The most critical weakness in the GSM protocol is the use of one-way entity authentication, i.e., only the mobile station is authenticated by the network. This creates many security problems including vulnerability against m...

Modeling Non-homogeneous Terminal Systems Using MOSEL

In this paper we consider a stochastic queueing model for the performance evaluation of a real life computer system consisting of n terminals connected with a CPU. A user at terminal i has thinking and processing times depending on index i. First we discuss reliable models, and then unreliable models (i.e. the CPU and the terminals are subject to random breakdowns). The models described here ar...
